Canada's Mission in Afghanistan
Today marked the end of Canada's military involvement in Afghanistan. To honor the fallen soldiers, the flag was lowered this morning. Students took part in a moment of silence, followed by a beautiful singing of O'Canada. The flag was then raised at noon to celebrate those soldiers that were a part and those who are coming home safe and sound.

Alien In-line Skating
Today was day three of skating - super fun! Today we played a game called Pizza Ball - please ask your child how it is played.
After we skated we discussed some of the things that were easy for us and some of the things that were hard. Please discuss these with your child. Ask them, what happens when we find something hard to do?
I have been making a video of the student's skating experiences which will be playing during conferences next week - make sure you take a moment to check it out!

Feelings
Today we read a story by Robert Munch - Stephanie's Ponytail. We discussed the characters and talked about how we thought they were feeling. Please ask your child - what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story? Who were the characters? How was Stephanie feeling? How were the other characters feeling? Visit TumbleBooks to read/listen to the story.

Owls
Today we study the owl and learned some very interesting things. We learned that the owl cannot move its eyes in his head - instead if it wants to look to the right of the left, they use their neck to turn their entire head! We also learned that owls eat animals whole! Please ask your child, what is an owl pellet? What is inside of it? Here is a hint http://www.birdscalgary.com/tag/owl-pellet/
We also talked about the food chain and how smaller animals are often eaten by larger animals. Here is an example of the food chain for an owl

Mrs. Traquair also found an amazing origami - birds book for us! This afternoon we were practicing making origami owls - they came home with the students. Please ask them the steps to make these wonderful origami owls. (Please forgive the pink paper - we know owls aren't pink - we were just practicing on the pink paper)

Thanks,

Ms. Toor
